Ramapo Music Club Promote Student Talent

Whether it’s a passion for music, a forum to discuss music, or just a medium through which musicians can interact and collaborate, the Ramapo Music Club is bringing an appreciation of the art of music to campus.

 

What is RMC?

Formerly known as MEISA (Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association), the Ramapo Music Club are a student organization dedicated to all things music on campus.

“Overall I think that the main goal of our club is to spread the awareness of music and musicians across campus. There are a lot of very talented people at Ramapo and we’re trying to give them all a platform through which they can express themselves,” said Jessica Kluge, club president.

The club hosts two concerts every semester, filled with local and student bands. One concert features hardcore and pop-punk bands, while the second features funk/EDM and indie music. The events will be taking place at the beginning and end of November.

When planning their concerts, the club look for talented local acts, and meet to discuss potential musicians by collectively sampling music from each band before deciding on a set lineup.

The club also host the Linden Late Night Open Mic, where anyone on campus can sign up to perform. These events help new students to be heard and collaborate with others. Linden Late Night takes place every Thursday night at 10 pm.

In addition to their own club run events, the Ramapo Music Club also cosponsor events with other clubs on campus. On November 3, the club will be cosponsoring a 5K walk on campus with Ramapo student Jess Waldron, the Ramapo College Dance Company, and Zeta Beta Tau.

Club president Jessica Kluge has also noted that the club will be hosting a karaoke event this semester, although a date has not yet been set.

How Can You Get Involved?

While on campus events are pivotal to the club, they are more than just a planning committee.

At meetings, members and non-members are welcome to discuss whatever music happens to be on their minds. The club meets Thursdays at 1pm in BC301, and everyone is welcome to join in on the discussion and help spread music awareness on campus.

Kluge has also stated that, in the future, the club also hopes to provide information about the music industry at meetings. This could include discussing the basics of the music business through presentations and guest speakers.
