Starbucks Falls for Fall Drinks

If you step into the Starbucks in the Preakness Shopping Center in Wayne, N.J. you will notice a few changes from their normal, quiet, hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. For starters their steamer is on full speed ahead pumping out drink after drink. Their line… forget about it.

The shift supervisor shouts,”Tall Pumpkin Spice Latte[2].” This ever so popular drink is hard to resist. An espresso based beverage made with pumpkin-flavored syrup and steamed milk topped with whipped cream and fall spices has been altered to perfection.

A short season that runs from the very end of August through November brings out fall drinks such as the Salted Carmel Mocha and the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL). Starbuck’s selection of fall beverages are back and  selling out quickly[3] every week so far.

Laura, whose last name she did not share and the Starbuck’s Communications Desk could not give out,  said she is excited to have the fall drink back along with other autumn treats. With or without her last name she was able to divulge some great info[4] about their fall season. “Since the first week we got it [Pumpkin Spice] we have been selling out nonstop– completely selling out,” Laura said.

Not to mention the Route 23 Starbuck’s  in Wayne had completely sold out of the very popular Pumpkin Spice since their last shipment just a couple days before.

A Starbucks fanatic sat with her son and enjoyed a Hot White Mocha. Even though she is excited for the fall season of drinks she said, “not having the drink is not going to kill me.”

Based on a study done by Statistic Brain 34%  of the total percentage of coffee drinkers go to premium places like Starbucks and Coffeebean. After reading this statistic to Elizabeth, again preferred not to share her last name, a full-time barista at Starbucks she laughed and said, “They all must be coming here for the Pumpkin Spice Latte.” Starbucks employee’s must be in fear of sharing their full name as to have a wrath of customers hunting them down for PSL’s.

The pumpkin spice flavor, in all it’s glory[6], is advertised until the end of November when they stop to introduce the holiday drinks. Elizabeth said, “even though Peppermint Mocha is the winter favorite it does not sell out like pumpkin spice.” She added that they keep some if the spice through the New Year or until supplies run out.

DOES TO-GO, ON THE GO REALY WORK?

In an effort to address their on-the-go fan base, Starbucks is rereleasing their VIA Pumpkin Spice Flavored Coffee. Self claimed food blogger for The Impulsive Buy wrote  — For instant coffee , it was perfectly fine, but it just didn’t have enough pumpkin flavor.

“The via is not selling as fast as the Starbucks thought it would but it is great for people on the go or traveling, but people rather come in and get a hand crafted beverage than the VIA,”  said.

So even though this coffee klatch was low on stash for this seasons VIA, its reviews do not measure up to the PSL that Starbucks fanatics are used to.

This is more than a trend. This annual event brings out a fan favorite, Starbucks has a hook with the holidays and a deeper demand for the Pumpkin Spice.
